Thanksgiving dinner held by 12:1 class
To students in Tauna LaBare’s class, Thanksgiving dinner is about getting together with friends and family and showing you are thankful for one another.

So this year, it was decided they would cook a Thanksgiving dinner to thank all of the staff who work with students in the 12:1 special education program, in graded K-12. This also gave the students an opportunity to learn and hone cooking skills, while getting some time to socialize with one another.

Each class had a part in helping prepare the meal, as well as the staff who worked diligently throughout the day, as well as the day before, to help the service go smoothly.

The classes split the duties, with one class working on popcorn centerpieces, as well as cooking yams and stuffing. Another made cranberry relish, while another made pinecone turkey centerpieces and made green bean casserole. Classes also made the main event of turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, biscuits, and cinnamon rolls. They also made desserts, such as pumpkin pies, Dutch apple pies, and three-layer pumpkin cheesecake pies. Beyond that, classes helped one another.

In the end, all of the students in the program (about 25) were at the dinner, as well as about 40 administrators, faculty, and staff. LaBare said the event was a huge success, and built memories that will last a lifetime with the students.
