Sidney CSD drinking water is lead free

A recent report has deemed the drinking sources in the Sidney Central School District to be lead free.

Keystone Environmental Services conducted tests in early March at four buildings in the district – the high school, middle school, elementary school, and the transportation building.

Although there are currently minimal requirements for public schools to routinely test drinking water, there are growing concerns of the possibility of lead being in school water supplies.

Water samples were taken, as well as photo documentation of existing conditions of drinking fountains, classroom sinks, and other points of water contact utilized by students and staff in the district.

Forty-three drinking fountains and sinks were tested and were lead free. These spots included fountains in each of the schools and transportation building, as well as sinks in and near rooms, and in cafeterias.

“With the recent concerns of lead in drinking water, the Sidney Central School District proactively tested all of its drinking sources,” Sidney Superintendent Bill Christensen said. “We’re pleased to report we had no lead in our drinking water.”
