Class builds gingerbread houses
The Sidney high school STEM elective class designed, baked, and assembled gingerbread houses. Students started designing the week before Thanksgiving and began baking after Thanksgiving break.
Students were required to provide their own templates to build their houses, which varied in sizes. The class finalized their houses and took them home the second week in December. During that week, December 12 was National Gingerbread House Day.
The project required 15 batches of gingerbread dough, and eight pounds of powdered sugar. The project also utilized several kinds of candies, including Jolly Ranchers, which were used as Windows.
Students participated in decorating and assembling their own houses and though there were a few cave-ins, all houses were intact at the end of the project.
