Snack Attack! is underway at Sidney Elementary

Snack Attack! – a superhero-themed taste test and health food initiative created by Sidney Farm to Table – started recently at Sidney Elementary.

The monthly taste-test is something the school has been doing for the past several years, giving younger students the chance to taste different and healthy foods.

This year’s taste test is in accordance with the district wellness policy, which “seeks to ensure all of its students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to make nutritious food selections.” Snack Attack! is designed to provide a model for healthy snack choices.

This year, students will have the chance to taste an easy-to-prepare and healthy low-calorie snack. Each taste testing will be accompanied by a superhero-theme recipe card, which gives instructions on how to create the snack, as well as nutritional information.

In addition to the lunchtime tasting, the team will also visit a different grade level each month for a hands-on demonstration.

The taste-test initiative, a collaboration between Sidney CSD food services, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Creating Healthy Schools, and the community, is now in its fourth year.
