Students set off rockets

This past school year, fifth-grade students had the chance to learn about parts of the engine, rocket, and launch system. During the lesson, they do comparisons to real-life rockets.

After learning about stability, students then construct their model rockets. Using a clinometer, students learn to measure an angle to use in a formula to figure out altitude.

In the end, there’s a culminating day where the students get to launch their rockets. Other classes come out and count down for each launch, and watch as the rockets are set off at the football field. Some of the rockets even had a parachute or a streamer for their recovery system.
