Ninth graders finish enrichment project

A project that allowed several ninth graders to interact and work with sixth graders was recently completed.

The project, which was an opportunity to incorporate English and social studies classes, had students create content-specific picture books. The books depicted life from the perspective of someone who lived in one of the ancient river valleys.

To incorporate English class, students had to include a literary element and a central idea in their stories.
With curricula being similar between sixth and ninth grades, the ninth graders were able to read their books to the sixth graders about the river valleys.

The students, who are in Catherine D’Agostino’s Global Studies class and Denise Jacobus’ English class, were: Molly Babcock, Kaitlyn Brown, Haley Smith, Mikayla Stefanek, and Hannah Talbot.

“The project gave the ninth graders an opportunity to explore and develop the content and vocabulary on a much deeper level than class time allows,” D’Agostino said. “They were able to perform at a high level to create something completely original.”
