Sidney ES holds quarterly Reading Warriors assembly
The Sidney Central District held its quarterly Reading Warriors assembly for the elementary school on Friday.

The event is to recognize how far the students have gotten in their school-wide goal for minutes read this year.

Teachers during each assembly sang a rendition of the “12 Days of Reading,” and the students also had the chance to hear some jokes from a group of third graders, and some thoughts about reading from the sixth graders.

This year’s goal for reading is 2,500,000 minutes. To this point, the elementary school is at 1,312,397 minutes read. Students are encouraged to read 30 minutes per night, five days a week.

The first grade currently leads the school with 232,045 minutes read. The following is how many minutes each grade has read so far:
  • First: 232,045
  • Sixth: 209,550
  • Fourth: 184,934
  • Kindergarten: 174,392
  • Fifth: 160,142
  • Second: 156,534
  • Third: 98,250
  • UPK: 96,550
