Sidney senior Gavin Bocanegra earned the award of “Best Emerging Artist” as the Regatta Row Street Festival, which was recently held in Bainbridge.
The medal was given by the Jericho Arts Council.
Bocanegra’s depiction of “Spongebob & Heroes in New York” was painted on a full-sized wooden paddle and was chosen by judges among 25 paddles made by the region’s top high school artists.
The paddles were displayed in storefront windows through Bainbridge.
The 25 paddles were also sold via an online auction through the Jericho Arts Council website and Bocanegra’s went for the highest price at $150.
