Sidney CSD takes on Big Apple Crunch
The Sidney Central School District junior and senior high took part in the Big Apple Crunch on Thursday during lunch periods.

The Big Apple Crunch took place around lunch time throughout the country, with schools, hospitals, businesses, and other institutions taking part in an annual fall tradition. The yearly event is hoping to surpass 2.5 million people participating this year.

Big Apple Crunch is a celebration of the New York farming industry. The first event took place in 2012 as a not-for-profit organization, GrowNYC, came up with the concept. The idea was to create a fun and accessible event that would also raise awareness for National Food Day.

It’s since grown to take a moment to appreciate foods sources locally. With that in mind, apples for the day were from two area farms – Fantasy Food Farm in Afton, and Middlefield Farm in Middlefield.

Elementary students picked the apples from Middlefield Farm. Photos from that day are included with the album below.
