A walking program for staff members this winter has proven to be successful at the Sidney Central School District.

Seventeen teams, made up of 33 participants, took part in the nine-week program, which had the goal of promoting and inspiring staff members to integrate exercise into their daily lives. Part of the school’s wellness policy is to commit to promoting wellness activities for students, staff, and the community at large. For the walking program, staff members had the chance to work in teams of two with the chance of winning prizes.

The winning team was made up of science teachers Bryan Neubert and David Teitelbaum, who combined for a total of 1,014,683 averaged steps, which is equal to 507 miles.

Second place went to elementary teachers Andrew Hoff and Laura Slesinsky, who had 963,571 total averaged steps (482 miles). In third place were Laci Daniels and Monica Gatto, who totaled 826,317 averaged steps (413 miles). And the staff member who had the most consistent, increased average steps per week was Karson James.
