First grade classes get visit from SRO
First grade classes get visit from SROFirst graders at Sidney Elementary have been learning what a good citizen is during their social studies lesson and writing time.

Recently, the classes invited Delaware County sheriff deputy Dave Barnes, who is Sidney’s school resource officer, into class to discuss rules and laws in the community.

Deputy Barnes shared what a law is and what a rule is. He also talked about how he became a deputy and what the first graders would have to do to become a deputy.

Students also created some super questions for Deputy Barnes, and he answered each of them.

Some of the questions included:
  • How do your handcuffs work?
  • Who takes care of police dogs?
  • What laws get broken the most around here?
Students were very appreciative that Deputy Barnes took time out of his schedule to visit them, and they wrote thank you notes to send to him.
