Sidney earns grand champion at robotics competition

Earlier this month, robotics teams from the Sidney Central School District competed at the 7th annual Robotics Competition held at SUNY Broome. The competition is sponsored by the Eastern Southern Tier STEMHub.

Sidney won grand champion honors with 31 points, beating Chenango Forks by one point in the 10-team competition. EverTech placed third with 21 points. 

Sidney’s points came in four events – Line Follow (11), Forklift (10), Auto Task (6), and Maze (4). In all there were five events. 

Two Sidney teams won their respective events during the competition. 

In the Forklift event, the Eighth Grade All-Stars won. Team members were Ryan Cole and Owen Barnes. 

In Line Following, the high school team of Gavin Hoeppner and Adam Wagner earned first place.

MAZE
4th place: Gavin Hoeppner, Matt Ross, Riley MacPherson (high school)

FORKLIFT
5th place: Matt Ross, Riley MacPherson (high school)
7th place: Adam Wagner (high school)

AUTO TASK
4th place: Riley MacPherson, Matt Ross
6th place: Gavin Hoeppner, Molly Youngs, Adam Wagner (high school)

LINE FOLLOWING
5th place: Damien Smith, Hannah Gregory, Kyleigh Phillips (elementary school)
