SHS students recreate historical photos
Students in Alan Robinson’s digital photography class had the chance to compare the past and present with a recent project.

Utilizing photos from the Sidney Historical Society, the class used “rephotography,” which is the art of recreating compositions of old photographs.

For the project, students selected old photos of Sidney’s architecture to recreate.

Then, before taking the field trip to recreate the images, the class utilized technology by using Google Maps to find where the vantage points would be in the current day.

After observing their references, students found the vantage point, set up tripods and began snapping photos.

When back in the classroom, students then edited photos to make sure the compositions matched the original photos as closely as possible.

“The results created a compelling contrast,” Robinson said.
