Sidney FFA holds annual awards banquet
Sidney FFA holds annual awards banquetThe Sidney chapter of the FFA recently celebrated its 48th annual awards banquet, hosted by the Sidney Fire Department.

FFA members were recognized for their achievements throughout the school year. Jay Waltz, Sidney's agriculture teacher and FFA adviser, notes how proud he was of the dedication, accomplishments, and leadership abilities of his students.

Andy Gray was presented with the Agriscience Stars and Stripes Award because of his leadership abilities and dedication to the FFA throughout the year.

Some of the highlights from the evening included high school Principal Eben Bullock recognizing Hailey Newell, Elijah Williams, Makayla Greco, and Hannah Calkins for maintaining the highest overall GPA in their class. Fourteen additional students were recognized for maintaining an 80 or above average for this school year.

Many students received their Greenhand Degree, as first-year members. Chapter Degrees were also awarded to second- and third-year members. The top first-year members, Reed Scott and Hannah Calkins, received the Star Greenhand Degree.

Whit Whitaker, of the Sidney Rotary Club, presented a scholarship of $300 to Renae Finch. The scholarship is for the Oswegatchie Education Center for leadership training this summer.

George Grays, president of the Sidney FFA alumni, presented more than $3000 in college and camp scholarships.

Hailey Newell earned the Star Chapter Farmer because of her leadership in the FFA, as well as her dedication to her Supervised Agriculture Experience.

The FFA also expressed its appreciation of the support provided by local businesses, community members, alumni, parents, and school staff.
