Students participate in career day
Students in grades 9-12 recently had the chance to explore possible career opportunities.

The Sidney Central School District, in conjunction with the Sidney Alumni Association, hosted the inaugural Alumni Career Day on Friday, April 22.

Twenty-one Sidney graduates (representing 15 different career clusters) returned to their alma mater to discuss their careers, as well as the pathway they took to get where they are and to reach their goals.

Before the event, students completed a cluster finder inventory with Sidney’s new program, Naviance. This program helps students learn or refine career clusters may be a good match for them, based on activities of interest, personal qualities, and subjects they enjoy.

During the event, students met with six alumni professionals based on the results. Small groups of students talked to the professionals at tables spread around the gym for intervals of about 12 minutes. They then changed and went to the next professional.

The Alumni Career Day encouraged students to think about their futures beyond high school, and expose students to positive role models in various occupations.
