Twenty students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, and who are members of the Green Thumb Gardening Guild, took part in a two-veggie coleslaw competition at Sidney Elementary School on Wednesday.

Students formed seven teams. Each team had to create a coleslaw recipe using just two vegetables, as well as four other ingredients for a sauce.

The teams met Wednesday morning to begin chopping, grating, dicing, and mixing up their coleslaw dishes. They needed a large enough quantity to serve the 600 elementary students who would come to sample it during lunchtime.

There were several judges who tasted each dish and decided the best one. Each team received many votes, but the top scoring team was AND1 (Joshua Clarke, Noah Rowe, and Cameron O'Brien), who made an asparagus and apple coleslaw.
