Senator Akshar tours Sidney CSD
New York State Senator Fred Akshar toured the Sidney Central School District on Tuesday, visiting some classrooms and seeing many initiatives going on within the district.

Akshar, who represents the 52nd District, toured the district with Sidney Superintendent Dr. Bill Christensen, and members of the school’s administrative team. Akshar’s district includes Broome and Tioga counties, as well as parts of Chenango and Delaware counties.

“We want to thank Senator Akshar for visiting our district,” Christensen said. “This was an opportunity to showcase all of the exciting things our students and staff are doing.”

Akshar visited Lori DePauw’s class during the morning, first giving his background in law enforcement and talking about how he got into politics. He then fielded questions on a variety of topics from the students in the class.

He talked about different facets of serving his constituents, as well as looking at the state as a whole.
“We live in a diverse state,” he said. “The needs of the people differ based on region.”

Akshar also toured the cafeterias and saw Sidney’s aquaponics system, and learned about the school’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program, among other stops throughout the tour.
