SCSD makes changes for cafeteria; all meals free in 2016-17
The Sidney Central School District has made several changes for its cafeteria for the 2016-17 school year.

The biggest change is that all meals – breakfast and lunch – served at the school in 2016-17 will be free for all students. All meals must meet the reimbursement guidelines of having three items, with one being a fruit or vegetable, at both breakfast and lunch.

Students are eligible to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a free and reduced application. A community eligibility provision form was sent home, however, to be filled out and sent back to the school. The form is also attached below.

On top of that, new menu options will include fresher ingredients and more cooking from scratch, with little or no processed foods. Some of the additions to the cafeteria include a smoothie bar with fruits and vegetables, a weekly themed food bar, weekly specialty salads, and a more attractive salad bar.

In the high school, a serving area will provide breakfast to those in grades 10-12 in front of the gym daily. Those in grades 7-9 will have breakfast in the cafeteria.

The elementary school is getting a new salad bar, and will be utilizing an Aquaponics system that grows fish and fresh vegetables all year long. The elementary school will also feature fresher ingredients with little or no processed foods.

The district website will also have the regular menus for each month, as well as a nutritional menu. The nutritional menu will feature a link for each meal of the month that you can click on to find out all the nutritional values for everything on the menu that day. You can view all menus on the right side of the food services page
