Early dismissal/sheltering drill set for October 19
This letter recently went home to families. As a reminder, we are putting it here as well. This is information about an early dismissal/sheltering drill. Students will be dismissed 15 minutes earlier than normal on Friday, October 19.

Sidney receives grant Sidney CSD receives grant to help with healthy eating initiatives
Thomas Hohensee, project coordinator for Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant, recently presented a check for more than $10,000 to Food Service Director Kim Corcoran, and Sidney teacher and wellness committee member. 

The check is to be used for the purchase of pedal-powered blender bikes and a mobile cooking lab. These items will be used as part of the Sidney Farm to Table initiative to promote healthy eating.

Sidney senior JP Dewey Senior to perform with All-State Jazz Ensemble
Sidney senior JP Dewey has been selected to perform with the NYSSMA Conference All-State Jazz Ensemble in Rochester this fall. 
Dewey will be playing piano in the 18-piece ensemble, and will also attend the music conference from November 29-December 2. 
First day for staff 2018 Sidney staff prepares for school year
The Sidney Central School District had its first of two days for teachers and staff to prepare for the upcoming school year on Thursday. 
Sidney Superintendent Dr. Bill Christensen welcomed back staff during the morning session, which included covering a variety of topics. 
Paula Dewey, president of the Sidney Teachers Association, then talked about the Teachers of the Year awards from 2017-18, which were given to elementary teacher Kari Ahlqvist and music teacher Marjorie Pipes, who retired at the end of last year and was unable to be in attendance.
