Sidney students tackle texting and driving issue
Sidney students this week are taking a stand against texting and driving.

During their lunch period, students in grades 9-12 are being asked to sign a poster pledging not to text and drive. In turn, they’ll receive a thumb bracelet to show their support for this cause.
 
Senior trip payment schedule; first payment date extended to Feb. 17
The deadline for first payment for the senior trip has been extended to February 17.

Outreach program for women interested in careers in medicine and engineering seeking applicants
The Perry Outreach Program, a one-day, hands-on experience for high school and college-aged women interested in careers in medicine and engineering, will be held Saturday, May 6 at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY.

Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.
 
Ninth graders finish enrichment project
A project that allowed several ninth graders to interact and work with sixth graders was recently completed.

The project, which was an opportunity to incorporate English and social studies classes, had students create content-specific picture books. The books depicted life from the perspective of someone who lived in one of the ancient river valleys.
 
Band Members of the Month
Ethan Moodley and Angelina Picozzi have been named the Band Member of the Month at Sidney Central School.

Moodley plays trumpet in the junior high band, and Picozzi plays the flute in the high school band.
 
Sidney Observatory to hold viewing sessions on February 3
The Sidney Central School Observatory will hold a viewing session from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3.

The featured attractions for the night will be the first quarter moon, Mars, and Venus. Both planets will be in the southwestern sky. Several telescopes will be available for viewing, including the main scope inside the dome.
