Sidney students selected to attend conference at Cornell Two sophomores to attend conference at Cornell
Two Sidney students will attend a conference at Cornell University on March 17. 

The Cornell University Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Graduate Women’s Group sponsors a program for select female sophomores intended to introduce high school girls, from rural school districts, to engineering and the sciences. 

Two from Sidney will attend this year as Meghan Greco and Bryleigh Beauchat have been selected. The sophomores were chosen by the STEM faculty at Sidney High School, with the criteria including academic excellence and potential career goals.  
Cast of Characters Sidney Drama Club to present “Characters” this weekend
The Sidney Drama Club will present the play “Characters” on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Sidney Central School auditorium. 

The play, which is by Nikki Leigh Mondschein, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, February 9, and Saturday, February 10. There is a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, February 11.
January Band Members of the Month Band Members of the Month
Daniel Morris and James Naef have been named the Band Member of the Month for the junior high and senior high bands, respectively.

Morris, a seventh grader, is a percussionist. Naef, a 10th grader, plays the trombone.
DAR award winner Sidney senior earns DAR Good Citizen Award
Victoria Prouty has been selected as Sidney High School’s recipient of the DAR Good Citizen Award. 

This award is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies the characteristics of good citizenship – dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Prouty was selected through a nomination process by faculty and staff.
Girls state representative 2018 Junior selected for Girls State
Sidney CSD junior Christina Worden has been selected to attend Empire Girls State at SUNY Brockport in July. 

Empire Girls State is an educational experience with hands-on workshops on government and the political process. It is designed to create a government from the county to the state level. This mythical 51st state allows students to learn the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in a democratic society. 

Worden was among a selection of semifinalists made by the faculty at Sidney High School. The Sidney chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring Worden.
Sidney students participate in all-county
The Sidney Central School District has several students participate in The Association of Chenango Area Music Teachers festival at Norwich High School this past Saturday. The festival featured students from 10 area schools.
Sidney students participated in elementary band, jazz ensemble, and high school chorus.
