Information about the Board of Education

Board of Education

The Sidney Central School Board of Education is comprised of seven members, each elected to a three-year term. As elected representatives from the community, the Board’s primary role is to establish policies that govern the operation of the District. The Board is also involved in many other District programs, including budget, financial accountability, facilities, negotiations and personnel.

The Board welcomes participation from all members of the school community: parents, staff and community members. Meetings are generally held at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month in the High School Library, and all meetings are advertised in advance. Please go to our new paperless Board of Education page to view information on past and present meetings.

Requests to address the Board of Education should be made in advance. A simple form is required. Forms are available in the District Office or by clicking the board brochure on the right hand side of the page. Before bringing a specific complaint to the Board, all parties should first attempt to resolve issues through the “chain of command.” This begins with staff members, followed by the building principal and, finally, the Superintendent. Be advised that items of a highly personal nature involving personnel, litigation or particular students can only be discussed confidentially in Executive Session to safeguard the privacy of those involved.

Serving on the Board of Education can be time consuming, yet it is also a very rewarding experience. The Board plays an important role in shaping many aspects of the District and, therefore, in the lives of children throughout our community.
