Sidney CSD to move forward with high-risk winter sports
Return to athletics graphic

The Sidney Central School District Board of Education approved the district to begin high-risk sports for the winter season, effective February 10.

The Midstate Athletic Conference approved the start of sports for February 8, pending individual districts getting approval from school BOEs. There will be no championships for winter sports, which will end March 6. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association gave the green light for high-risk sports to start February 1

Sidney will compete in JV and varsity boys and girls basketball. Practices are set to begin February 10. Students must have six practices before being able to play in a game. There are no modified sports this season.

Citing several factors, the Midstate Athletic Conference voted to not offer wrestling to its member schools for this school year.
Virtual bowling matches, as well as virtual indoor track meets will continue.

Delaware County Public Health gave guidelines and recommendations for sports, which include the county’s rolling seven-day average of positivity rate to be below 4 percent. As of February 9, Delaware County’s rate is 2.2 percent.

Sidney’s return to athletics plan can be viewed here. Students who are participating must make sure their paperwork is filled out before they can participate.
