Update on status of New York State DOE
This is an update regarding the New York State Department of Education's status about wearing face coverings in K-12 public schools.

State and federal officials have, once again, contemplated modifying the guidance regarding COVID-19 precautions and, specifically, when and where face coverings should be warned. If you listened to the news or read local newspapers, it would appear the change is official. However, all we have so far is a letter (dated June 4) from the New York State Department of Health to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

On Sunday, June 6, the New York State Department of Education released a statement regarding that letter and said the intent for the letter was to obtain a response from the CDC. Therefore, schools should continue to operate under their existing procedures until further notice.

No changes have been, or will be made, until after Monday June 7, which affords the CDC an opportunity to respond to the letter.

As New York State guidance has not changed, Sidney CSD students and staff will continue to wear face coverings. The district will follow the proposed changes closely and communicate more once we have guidance. The district will also follow the guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the Education Department.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.
