The Sidney Central School District has named its valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2022.
The valedictorian is Maegan Mazzarella, and the salutatorian is Bailey Gifford.
The two, who were recognized during a ceremony at the school on Tuesday, will speak during the annual graduation ceremony on June 25.
Valedictorian
Mazzarella has been a consistent selection on the Superintendent’s List, as well as a recipient of the academic and achievement awards each year. Her academic schedule is challenging, but that hasn’t stopped her from being active within the school.
An important part of the drama club, Mazzarella designs and runs the lights for the shows. She’s also active in Interact, the National Honor Society, and the yearbook club. She is also a member of the bowling team.
Mazzarella has plans to attend the University at Albany and major in chemistry.
She is the daughter of Lynne and Jeffrey Mazzarella.
Salutatorian
Gifford is a dedicated student who is a member of the National Honor Society and has consistently been on the Superintendent’s List throughout high school. She’s also received the academic and achievement awards each year.
A member of the field hockey team, she was on the team that won the Division II championship and she was a first-team all-star. She also has played basketball and softball.
Outside of athletics, Gifford has been part of SSADD, and also holds a job outside of school hours.
Her future plans include studying fashion business management in South Korea through the Fashion Institute of Technology. The program is for two years.
She is the daughter of Jennifer VanPelt-Gifford.
