Sidney raises more than $2,000 for JDRF

The Sidney Central School District and community came together to raise more than $2,000 to donate to the JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) during November, which is Diabetes Awareness Month.

Students took part in the fundraising as the varsity basketball teams did a “Hoop-a-thon” where players got sponsors and then shot 100 free throws. On December 3, the boys basketball game against Sherburne-Earlville featured an awareness night with info booths from Bassett Healthcare and UHS. Shupperd’s Tack Shop also printed t-shirts and sold them, with the proceeds benefitting the fundraiser.

During halftime of the basketball game, the UHS Diabetes Center made a donation, and there was also a half-court shooting contest where people could pay to take a shot with the chance at winning a prize.
