Sidney class creates brand of jams and salsa

Students in Sidney Central School’s eighth-grade Ag and Tech class, which is co-taught by Jay Waltz and Tom Rose, have been busy learning about canning and food preservation, as well as the aspect of business marketing and branding.

The class has processed and branded salsa, as well as a variety of jams under the name “Warrior Fresh.”

Flavors of jams have included strawberry, red raspberry, mixed berry, strawberry jalapeno, and jalapeno. Each jam is available as a single four- or eight-ounce jar. There is also a trio pack, which includes one eight-ounce jar, and two four-ounce jars.

The students have also worked on a cost-analysis study, which showed them how much it cost to produce each batch, as well as each jar of jam.

The class has accepted online orders within the Sidney CSD community, and students deliver the product throughout the campus.
