Sidney CSD takes part in Big Apple Crunch

Once again, the Sidney Central School District took part in the Big Apple Crunch, presented by the NY FarmOn! Foundation.

In partnership with local farmers across New York’s apple belt, as well as looking to bring children closer to food and farming with healthy fun, the Big Apple Crunch took place across the state on Friday.

In the Elementary school at Sidney, the district’s agriculture initiative was mixed with literacy as older students read to younger students, using books about and with apples involved. During the reading time, students munched away at locally grown apples.

In the high school, students in Family and Consumer Science, as well as the Ag and Tech class worked to make applesauce, a crisp, and apple chips to serve to the rest of the students during lunch.
