This past Friday, the Sidney Elementary School honored local veterans with assemblies to learn about the day, and hear from veterans.

 

The assemblies were UPK/kindergarten, first/second grades, third/fourth grades, and fifth/sixth grades.

 

The veterans in attendance were as follows: Mark Lee (United States Air Force), Tom Ruff (United States Air Force), Rich Halbert (United States Marine Corps), Bob Smith (United States Air Force), Jacqueline Gascon (United States Army), and Sidney Elementary School Principal Robert Hansen (United States Marine Corps).

 

Sidney Elementary school counselor Sam Burruss and literacy specialist Kate Webb and community partner Larry Halbert helped organize the event.

 

During the event, students sang a patriotic song to the veterans, and also had the chance to ask questions. The veterans, in turn, told about themselves, and also about what it means to be a veteran and serving our country. They also showed students how to properly fold the flag. 

 

Each assembly ended with the Pledge of Allegiance.
