The Sidney Central School District took #SidneyPRIDE to a new level.
For the start of the 2024-25 school year, each student from UPK-12 received an SEL (social emotional learning) kit. The kit, which was purchased using federal ARP ESSER funds that were designated for SEL, included a backpack full of items for students.
The backpack included items such as a t-shirt, winter hat, carabiners, blanket, keychain, magnet, sensory stickers, pencils, a folder, and a water bottle. All of the items are branded with Sidney logos.
Also included with the kit was a folder of SEL resources for students and families. That included items such as technology safety plans, fun non-technology activities for outside of school, as well as information about how to connect with community agencies.
“This allows all students to have gear and share the same pride across the district,” Superintendent Eben Bullock said. “We wanted to give back to all kids. This goes along with the goal of the district where ‘everyone belongs.’”
The kits went through a bid process, which was ultimately won by Shupperd’s, a shop that takes pride in the Sidney community, Bullock said.
