Senior, teacher honored at Scholar Recognition banquet
Megan Lewis and Christine Race

Sidney CSD senior Megan Lewis and high school teacher Christine Race were honored for Sidney for the 2024 Scholar Recognition program.
The program honors students and teachers from schools in the DCMO BOCES and ONC BOCES districts. One student from each school is recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement. That student then nominates a teacher who has had a significant and beneficial influence on their education.

Sidney’s 2024 Senior Scholar and Valedictorian, Megan Lewis, is a unique blend of character and work ethic. While the list of achievements and extracurriculars on Megan’s resume is accomplished, Megan, the person, is more impressive. Megan saw the value of taking challenges and stimulating coursework and enjoyed the unique opportunities they presented as she developed 21st-century skills of teamwork, leadership, and project management. Megan put these skills to use as a leader in her school community in many ways as president of student council and Tri-M Honor Society, organizing events, picking up trash on the side of the highway, and onstage as MC for the Sidney’s Got Talent shows. Megan is a scientist, athlete, musician, and already a valued member in her community. Her experiences will provide her a solid foundation as she moves forward with her academics at Binghamton University next fall to study neuroscience and pharmaceuticals.

Being accepted for Scholar Recognition is an honor, but the bigger honor is being able to share what an amazing teacher Mrs. Race is in a permanent way. I have known Mrs. Race since 7th grade, and throughout the time I have been in her classroom, I have always known that she was committed to my success. She is willing to come in early or stay late to help her students, and the amount of care she holds for those in her classroom is truly remarkable. It has been an honor to be her student and learn from her.
