Outstanding scholar, teacher recognized at SHS
Senior scholar and teacher

Sidney CSD senior Collin Searles and high school teacher Lori DePauw were honored at the Scholar Recognition program dinner, which was held at SUNY Oneonta.

The program honors students and teachers from schools in the DCMO BOCES and ONC BOCES districts.

One student from each school is recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement. That student then nominates a teacher who has had a significant and beneficial influence on his or her education.

Below are the write-ups from the program.

Collin Searles

The Sidney Central School District is pleased to recognize Collin Searles as their 2019 Senior Scholar. Collin is an intelligent, hardworking, determined, friendly and high-energy individual with a great sense of humor.

Ranked near the top of his class, he thrives on the challenges of college-level courses. He is a member of the golf and tennis teams, Interact, Honor Society, Spanish Club, and has worked on the Watershed Project.

Collin has dedicated himself to enriching the lives of students and the community around him. His unwavering devotion to his school and community exemplifies strong moral fiber and character. He has demonstrated an incredible initiative and strong dedication during his presidency of our executive student council and SSADD clubs. He was an integral part of organizing SSADD’s first 5K fundraising event, acquiring sponsors, and ultimately earning $5,000 to donate to cancer research.

Collin has become a very mature and responsible young man and has the drive and determination of a professional. There is no doubt that Collin will find huge success in college and beyond!

Lori DePauw (as written by Collin Searles)

Over the years of my Sidney High experience, Mrs. DePauw has been my teacher, mentor, advisor, and friend. She has taught me what it truly means to be a leader.

Not that it’s about the scholarships or the boasting, but instead about the impact you can leave on others and what you do with that impact.

I truly can say that I have developed into a better person because of her advice and her devotion to her students.

Without the passion she has for teaching and advising students, I would not be the leader I am today and I thank her for everything she has done for me.
