Sidney to hold free ACT testing during school day
The Sidney Central School District is going to give its students the opportunity to take the ACT test for free during the school day on Tuesday, April 2.

The ACT is a curriculum-based educational and career planning tool. As a capstone of college and career readiness solutions, the ACT is based on what students learn in high school.

A total of 58 students will take the test Tuesday.

“Taking it during the school day eliminates potential obstacles such as cost and transportation for Saturday administration,” School Counselor Jody Gravelin said. “Historically, we might have a maximum of 10 students show up to take the exam on a Saturday.”

Since 2007, students in more than 47 states have earned college-reportable scores taking the ACT in their own classrooms through this program.

This setup provides students the ability to assess academic schools and level of college readiness in a familiar environment. It also is beneficial in allowing students to accurately assess what they have learned in school.
