Sidney students compete at Jr. Iron Chef
Two Sidney teams competed this past weekend at the Jr. Iron Chef competition held at SUNY Cobleskill.

One group competed in the middle school competition, with the other in the high school division.

This was the sixth year the event was held, and the fourth straight at SUNY Cobleskill.

The competition is for teams who develop recipes using a combination of USDA and local ingredients to prepare a dish that could be served in a school cafeteria.

The middle school team, represented by sixth graders India Barton, Adrian Bennett, and Sarah Crowley prepared a dish called “Fruit Explosion.” Coaches for that team were Charity Martell and Carissa Cuccia.

Golding Middle School (Cobleskill-Richmondville) won the 14-team competition with 444 points. Donovan Middle School (Utica), and Waterville Central School placed second and third, respectively. Sidney finished with 351 points.

The high school team, represented by sophomore Dorian Whitehill, and freshmen Andrew Vinal, Emily Jones, and Lilyanna Shannon, prepared a stuffed crust white pepper pizza. The team was coached by Hannah Taggart and Amy VanAlstyne.

Roscoe won the nine-team event with 435 points, followed by Cooperstown and Unadilla Valley. Sidney earned 373 points.
