Five named to football all-state team for Sidney
Sidney all-state selections for football 2018

Five players for the Sidney CSD football team were name to the New York State Sportswriters Association Class D all-state team. 
 
Junior Liam Matthews, a wide receiver, earned first-team status. He finished the season with 876 yards on 44 catches, and had 14 touchdowns. Matthews, who averaged nearly 20 yards per catch, also filled in at quarterback for one game, completing 6 of 10 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. 
 
Three others made the second team.
 
Senior Ryan Harris earned the quarterback spot, leading the offense. He completed 156 of 239 for 2,560 yards. He also had 35 touchdowns to just nine interceptions in eight games.
 
Cameron Chabot, a junior earned a spot on the second team offensive line. Sidney’s offensive line helped the Warriors gain more than 3,800 yards this season. On defense, Chabot finished with 56 tackles. 
 
Senior Mike Mazzarella was named the second team place kicker. He finished the season with 37 extra points and one field goal.
 
David Gannon, a senior, was named to the honorable mention team. Sidney’s top running back, Gannon finished with 748 yards and eight touchdowns on 125 carries. 
 
“All five of these players had strong seasons and were part of the reason we were successful this year,” Sidney coach Jeff Matthews said. We’ll miss the three seniors next year but are excited to have two all-state players returning.”
 
Sidney finished 8-1 this past season.
