Sidney CSD and Village of Sidney team up to host Red Cross training
The Sidney Central School District and Village of Sidney will co-sponsor an American Red Cross Citizen Preparedness Corps training on Thursday, October 10.

The event will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Sidney CSD auditorium. There is no cost to attend, and it is offered to residents of Sidney and surrounding areas.

The district and village are partnering up on this event, and looking to continue working together for the community.

“It’s nice to work together to offer a program beneficial to our residents, so we aren’t duplicating” Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak said. “We can never be over prepared.”

The event is designed to make sure communities are ready for emergencies. New York State is at a high risk for man-made, technological, and natural disasters. This session, which is available with a partnership between the state and the American Red Cross, will provide residents with the knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover to pre-disaster conditions as quickly as possible.

Some of the topics covered will include:
  • Fire safety
  • Severe weather preparedness
  • Basic first aid
  • Evacuation plans
  • Emergency supply kits
  • Pet safety
  • Communication plan
At the end, all participants will receive a certificate of completion.

“It’s really about being educated and taking action,” Sidney CSD Superintendent Eben Bullock said. “This provides an opportunity to make the community aware to be prepared as much as possible for any crisis.”

No RSVP is necessary, but residents are encouraged to arrive early.
