Harrington set for first state tournament
Sidney junior wrestler Zach Harrington

Sidney junior Zach Harrington will compete in his first New York State Public High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament this weekend at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Harrington (39-4), who received a wild-card selection and finished as the Section Four runner-up at 138 pounds two weeks ago, earned the fourth seed. He’ll open the tournament against senior Tom Lynch (32-6) of Seaford.

Should Harrington win his first two matches, he could face top-seeded Brady Worthing (42-0) of Tioga in a state semifinal. The two met two weeks ago in the Section Four final with Worthing earning a 9-1 victory. Worthing won the state title at 132 last year, and was a state finalist at 120 in 2018.

Wrestling begins Friday at 10 a.m., with preliminaries, quarterfinals, and wrestlebacks. The tournament will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday with semifinals. Consolation finals are slated for 2 p.m., with the state championships for Division I and II scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
