In late September, Time Warner Cable named Sidney senior tennis player Jillian Hornbeck their first scholar-athlete for 2015-16.
Hornbeck was nominated by her coach of six years, Loraine Flyzik. Horbeck’s attributes were based on her overall GPA, tennis experience, and community service.
Starting with the team as a manager in sixth grade, Hornbeck has played on varsity since she was a seventh grader. She played No. 1 and No. 2 singles here junior and senior years. In 2014, Hornbeck and Mallorie Hoag, who graduated in 2015, earned the Section Four Class C/D doubles championship. Hornbeck teamed with Anna Egli this year.
A hard worker in the classroom, Hornbeck is currently ranked No. 1 in her class. She is hoping to attend Williams College to major in pre-med.
Hornbeck is also an active member of the Interact Club, Spanish Club, and Varsity Letter Club. She was selected to the National Honor Society and also works part-time at the Sidney Memorial Public Library.
