The Sidney Central School District held an ice cream social on June 3 to help launch its summer reading challenge.
At the same time of the ice cream social, the book fair and the elementary school art show were going on, giving parents and other community members the chance to see some of the great work being done by students as well as look at and pick up books for their child(ren) to read.
There was also a spot for kids to do some arts and crafts.
During the ice cream social, parents and guardians were able to gather information or sign up for the reading challenge.
It’s not too late to sign up for the Sidney Summer Reading Challenge. If you weren’t able to attend the social and sign up, contact the elementary school main office before June 17.
Once signed up, take a bag of books home to read this summer (the school will provide the books). Log your reading time online at http://www.scholastic.com/summer, or you can fill out a paper log sheer.
If you fill out a paper sheet, it must be returned to the elementary school main office by Sept. 9.
The goal is to read 20 minutes per day, five days per week for a 10-week span.
When you need more books, call the school and stop by to get another bag of books. You can also read books from the public library or any books at home. The key is to just keep reading and logging minutes!
Prizes will be awarded in the fall when students return to school.
Attached, below, is a sheet with all of the information for parents and/or guardians.
