Students in first grade at Sidney Elementary School have been challenging themselves recently by reading, researching, and writing about animals.

After choosing an animal that interested them, students spend several days learning facts. They then organized their facts and produced their own non-fiction book about the animal.

The focus for students was on English Language Arts skills, and also science.
When all of the books were completed, the students practiced reading their books out loud. The hard work paid off when many parents and family members attending the book sharing, which was held in the first-grade classrooms.

The first-grade teachers noted how proud they are, and also how well the students presented their books.
