The Sidney Central School District proudly welcomed Dr. Jeffrey Matteson, Senior Deputy Commissioner at the New York State Education Department, for a comprehensive visit on Thursday morning. The visit served as a unique opportunity to highlight Sidney’s programs, resources, and innovations in rural education to state-level leadership.
Joining Dr. Matteson were former BOCES District Superintendent Scott Bischoping and current DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Mike Rullo. Together, they toured the district’s facilities and met with board of education members, administrators, faculty, and students during the three-hour visit.
“We were proud to be able to highlight our programs, facilities, and resources as the Sidney Central School District,” Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock said. “This was an opportunity to show what upstate, high-need, rural schools can provide for students and the school community.”
Throughout the visit, Dr. Matteson and guests saw firsthand how Sidney CSD continues to align its day-to-day operations with its mission, vision, and Blueprint for Excellence. From innovative classroom practices and student engagement strategies to the cutting-edge learning environments and the district’s commitment to its core values—including belonging, innovation, and excellence—the tour demonstrated how Sidney is redefining what’s possible in rural education.
The visit concluded with a walking tour through school buildings, including stops in classrooms where Dr. Matteson observed creative instructional learning environments. He also engaged in discussions with district leaders about how Sidney leverages community partnerships, technology, and creativity to provide opportunities for our students.
As Sidney CSD continues to champion its motto “Everyone Belongs,” Thursday’s visit was a powerful affirmation of the district’s leadership, innovation, and dedication to student success in a rural setting.
