As winter weather approaches, we want to keep the Sidney Central School District community informed about our procedures for school closings, delays, and early dismissals. Please take a moment to review this information to help ensure the safety of all students, staff, and families.

Safety is our top priority when determining weather-related delays or closings due to snow, ice, or other hazardous conditions. The district carefully reviews information from the National Weather Service, consults with local highway departments, coordinates with our transportation and building and ground teams and neighboring school districts before making any decisions.

Definitions of Closings/Delays/Early Dismissals

  • School closing means that schools are closed for that calendar day. When school is closed due to inclement weather, there will not be extracurricular activities such as meetings, practices, and contests.

  • With a one- or two-hour delay schedule, your child’s school day will begin one or two hours after the regular start time. Breakfast will be served, and dismissal times remain the same.

    • One-hour delay – school doors open at 8:40am and classes begin at 9:00am

    • Two-hour delay – school doors open at 9:40am and classes begin at 10:00am

  • If there is an early dismissal due to potentially dangerous weather conditions, all extracurricular activities will be canceled, including the afterschool enrichment program. Please make sure that you have a plan in place for situations where your child may be released early.

We will keep you informed of any updates to the information above. Thank you for your continued partnership, and please reach out if you have any questions.
