The Tri-M Music Honor Society recently cleaned up its section of State Route 8. Tri-M cleans a section of Route 8 twice per year as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program.
As always, a great job to make sure that section looks good!

Through a music educator journal, Sidney music teacher David DeSiro found an initiative called “Fill the Chair,” which promotes music education, and he said he thought it would be a good match to do it with Sidney CSD’s junior and senior high school band members.
With this initiative, students were asked to think about one or two words in response to the prompt “What would you miss if you weren’t in band?” Students then began writing their responses on one of the chairs in the band room – and the responses were powerful. Some of the responses included creativity, community, friends, family, and joy.
Junior Keegan Goble, a junior who plays the baritone saxophone, wrote “inspiration.”
“The band has inspired me to write my own music,” he said as to why he chose his word.
There’s still room on the chair for more words. The chair now represents a student’s place in the band.
“We’ll do this every year until there isn’t room,” DeSiro said. “Then we’ll start another chair.”

Read Like Us is a research-based approach designed to strengthen students’ reading fluency—helping them read accurately, smoothly, and with expression. Teachers from grades 4–8 joined the lesson to observe and learn with the students.
During the session, students and Mrs. Townsend explored the poem “Black and White and Yellow and Red” through whole-group, partner, and independent reading. Students also practiced summarizing their thinking by creating a 10-word “gist,” building both comprehension and confidence.
Sidney CSD is incredibly proud of our seventh-grade students for demonstrating respect, integrity, and determination through the lesson. Their engagement and participation truly reflected #SidneyPRIDE.
Also, a special thank you goes to Mrs. Townsend and Mrs. Stewart for sharing their time, expertise, and passion for literacy with our school community.

The annual mock trial was held Monday, with two sides arguing a murder case in front of Sidney CSD teacher Wayne Allen, who served as judge. In the end, a jury of students found the defense as the winner, finding the defendant not guilty.
