The Cullman Cottage in Sidney, part of the Cullman Child Development Center, will welcome Sidney CSD UPK students for the 2023-24 school year.

The renovated cottage had its ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning.

“The Sidney Central School District is excited for the Cullman Child Development Center in the opening of the Cullman Cottage,” said Sidney CSD Superintendent Eben Bullock. “The Center’s mission is to be the premier childcare facility in the area. The new cottage is a state-of-the-art facility that will provide our earliest learners with a safe and great learning environment. We look forward to another great year partnering with them.”

This is the third year Sidney CSD has teamed with the Cullman Center for its UPK program.

Classroom spaces have been completely remodeled with a modern look and feel, giving students and staff tools they need.

The program offers full or half-day classes for Sidney CSD families. The district also provides transportation at the beginning and end of each day, said Sidney CSD Assistant Superintendent Kerrie Johnston.

“Sidney CSD is grateful for the partnership with the Cullman Child Development Center,” she said. “The new UPK classrooms reflect our community's commitment to our youngest learners as they begin their educational journey.”

Sidney UPK-2 Principal Sean Wood said the program helps students to get prepared for attending kindergarten the following year at Sidney Elementary.

“We are both focused on nurturing the whole child,” he said. “Our work encompasses not only academic learning but also social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

“Through interactive activities, play, and diverse experiences, the students coming to our kindergarten classes get a jump start that continues when they walk through our doors,” he continued. “And we continue to build upon those foundational skills, igniting a love for learning.”

If you are in the Sidney Central School District and your child(ren) turn four on or before December 1, 2023, they are eligible for this year’s UPK program. Please contact Principal Sean Wood at 607-561-7701 or [email protected] for more information; and district Registrar Tammy Osborne at 607-561-7728 or [email protected] to make an appointment to register.
