Alumni Career Day held at Sidney CSD
Students receive information during the third annual Alumni Career Day
For the third straight year, students at the Sidney Central School District had the chance to explore different career fields during the Alumni Career Day.

The event on Friday, November 17, was held in conjunction between the Sidney Central School District and the Sidney Alumni Association.
Seventeen presenters manned tables this year, allowing students in grades 7-12 to hear about career possibilities, and to ask questions of those in the professional world. Those speaking with Sidney students were mainly alumni of the school.

For the second straight year, grades 7-8 were involved. The first year was aimed only at grades 9-12.

Grades 11-12 had two sessions of 18 minutes each, allowing more in-depth time and questions. Grades 9-10 had five 12-minute sessions, and grades 7-8 had four 12-minute sessions.

Dr. Mark Montgomery, the Associate Dean of Social Sciences and Public Services at Mohawk Valley CC, serves as the keynote speaker. He talked to each class before they met with professionals, delivering a message to students about seizing the day and believing in themselves.

During the event, students picked fields in which they had interest, and learned from a professional in that occupation. After the time limit, they would move on to their next interested field.

The Alumni Career Day encourages students to think about their futures beyond high school, and expose students to positive role models in various occupations.
