Farm-to-table events held at Elementary School

Farm-to-table events held at Elementary School

Fourth-grade students took charge of serving a farm-to-table event in the elementary school cafeteria.

The series is a monthly food tasting of fresh local foods, which are prepared by and for students.

The September kickoff event featured a salsa made from tomatoes from the school garden, and from Bishop’s farm in Sidney.

In October, all elementary students had the chance to pull seeds from a pumpkin. The following day, Green Thumb Growers Guild members served the roasted seeds to students during lunch periods.

For all events, food from local farms is used. Students take part in the preparation of all served.

The program continues in November (grilled corn and kale salad) and December (homemade applesauce with cinnamon).

The farm-to-table program is a collaboration of Sidney food services, Green Thumb Growers Guild, and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
