Looking at the month of March
By Shelby Ryder

As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. And for many Sidney High School students, this seems to have some truth.

The month kicked off with progress reports being mailed, but it will end with another beloved coffee house event on March 24. March is not only the month of the color green, leprechauns, and pots of gold, but also contains PI(E) day on March 14.

March is also Women’s History Month. Some famous females to remember are:
  • Abigail Adams (First Lady to President John Adams), who encouraged her husband to protect women’s rights.
  • Susan B. Anthony, who worked for women’s suffrage.
  • Elizabeth Blackwell, a women’s rights activist, and also the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States.
  • Shirley Chisholm, who was the first African-American woman elected to congress.
  • Helen Keller, a blind and deaf educator who overcame her own disabilities to help others who suffered from the same things.
March is also known for basketball and, on March 14, March Madness begins.

On March 17, the faculty basketball game will take place.

And don’t forget what might be the best day of the month – March 20 – as it is the first day of spring! And though spring break isn’t until April, try and soak up some rays and enjoy the incoming beautiful flowers and be ready for the robins to start singing songs.

A few other upcoming events at the school during March are:
  • March 10-12: Tri-Town Theatre event in the auditorium
  • March 14: Honor Society banquet
  • March 21: Board of Education meeting
It's never a bad thing to get involved in the school, or your community!

Also remember, on March 12, Daylight Savings Time begins, so turn your clocks ahead one hour!
